Lucia and Jason: Everything We Know About GTA 6 Protagonists

For the first time in Grand Theft Auto history, the series has two playable protagonists at launch and one of them is a woman. Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval are the criminal couple at the center of GTA 6. Here is everything officially confirmed about both characters so far.

Lucia Caminos

Lucia is GTA 6's primary protagonist — the first female lead in the franchise's mainline history. We first meet her in Trailer 1 inside the Leonida State Penitentiary, serving time for reasons not yet fully explained. She is determined, calculating, and clearly the driving force behind the duo's ambitions. The official trailer description confirms she wants to build a better future after serving time — suggesting her arc involves more than just chaos for chaos's sake.

On the cover art, Lucia stands in the foreground with a compact firearm and a fierce expression. Rockstar's deliberate decision to place her ahead of Jason visually suggests she carries more narrative weight in the story.

Jason Duval

Jason is introduced in Trailer 2 doing manual labor around Vice City — rooftop work, beach workouts, small-time crime. He picks Lucia up from prison and the two reconnect. His personality reads as more reactive where Lucia is proactive. He is protective, loyal, and clearly willing to go as far as Lucia needs him to go.

The official story description frames their dynamic clearly: when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, forced to rely on each other in the middle of a conspiracy stretching across Leonida.

The Bonnie and Clyde Blueprint

Rockstar has leaned into this comparison deliberately. Two criminals. Partners in crime and in life. A conspiracy bigger than both of them pulling them deeper in. GTA V gave us three protagonists with distinct solo arcs that merged into one story. GTA 6 appears to keep both protagonists tightly bound throughout — their fates are linked from the start.

Switching Between Characters

Rockstar has not officially confirmed how switching between Lucia and Jason will work mechanically. GTA V used a radial wheel to switch between Michael, Trevor, and Franklin at will during free roam. Whether GTA 6 will use a similar system, restrict switching to certain story moments, or offer simultaneous co-op play remains unconfirmed.
